Q : Briefly tell us about your company, and its history. What kind of services you offer?
A : KURU Shoes is a vertical, web-driven shoe brand. That means we design, develop, manufacture and sell direct to the consumer through our website. Our shoes are the world's most comfortable shoes that help people do more, stay more fit and have the energy for a better quality of life. We launched our brand during the economic downturn, and 2009 was our first full year in business shipping product.
Q : Your design inspires us, what inspires you?
A: Our brand is named after KURU, Finland. Kuru, Finland is a small town known for environmental conservation, nature, and the water is so pure in Kuru, you can drink directly from most of the streams. As a result, we draw a lot of inspiration from nature and the timeless, simple aesthetic of Scandinavian design.
Q : You selected spot UV and mattes silver foil on one side, how did you settle on this combination?
A: Just as we are inspired by the tasteful simplicity of Scandinavian design, I wanted our business cards to be simple yet distinct. The spot UV is actually a pattern created by combining our logo mark. This created a subtle touch of branding, while the silver foil draws attention to the main focus which is our logotype.
Q : The design is simple and clean yet very effective and eye catching. Take us through your design process.
A: For us, design is an iterative process, and our aim is to get better with each iteration. We really wanted to capture the primary brand color, which is our KURU Green. So, I felt that coating the back of the card in our vivid KURU Green would help set the brand tone for the rest of the card. The design process for me includes observing the world around me, how people are interacting with a product or object (in this case, business cards) and then the best way to design that product. That's why I kept the front of the card white, because I find that many times people want to write down notes on a business card after meeting with someone.
Q : What is you advise regarding what information should be put on a business card?
A: That is very dependent on the client and the kind of information that needs to be communicated. We've had QR codes on some previous cards, but found that it wasn't overly useful. So, we deleted it on this round. I think you have to consider the client, their brand and their industry to determine what kind of information should be included on the card.
Q : Any other tips for our clients to consider when they are creating their business cards?
A: I think good design always needs to include a thorough understanding of the end user. Not necessarily the client, but the end user. Whether you are designing a product, an interface, marketing collateral or anything else. Get into the mind of the end user and how can you create an experience that not only satisfies their immediate needs, but something that empowers them to accomplish.
Q : Did you experience any difficulties when using MorningPrint.com, or find anything to be inconvenient or inefficient?
