Q : Briefly tell us about your company, it??s history and what kind of services do you offer?
A : Currently, I am a graduate student pursuing a Master??s in Public Health. I always had a bunch of creative hobbies that I thought would be of no purpose other than keeping me sane. As an undergraduate, I came across many other students or friends-of-friends pursuing their own ventures, which subsequently led to the hiring of my services for their creative work. To be honest, I was just tired of scribbling my phone number or email address on a piece of paper, or typing in a phone number on a phone. I thought creating a freelance design business would not only make this proceeding smoother, but would also speak volumes when trying to conduct myself professionally. Most of my work consists of branding, print work, and illustration.
Q : Your design inspires us, what inspires you?
A : I??ve always been fascinated in the design process, the origins of a final product. The design process of a vehicle, animation cells of cartoons (backgrounds as well), architectural drafts of a structure were things that always sparked my interest. Ever since I was young, I liked to draw, whether it be sketching on the backs of junk mail or scribbling on the margins of school notes (a habit that sticks to this day. Nowadays my notes look similar to that of infographics). I never really understood my interest in design until I stumbled upon books and publications of artists?? work or ??rules?? of design while studying or looking for textbooks as an undergraduate. I soon found myself spending a greater amount of time reading those books that I happened to find rather than studying.
Q : You added spot UV to the front of your design in an interesting way. Your background color k100 and the triangle pattern and your logo is k90, and you applied your spot UV to select triangles which depending how you hold the card gives the illusion of two tones. Was this intentional? Can you walk us through the thought process of your design?
A : Yes, it was intentional. I knew I wanted to add spot UV to the business card, but I wanted to add a little unique flare to an otherwise pretty minimal design. I also wanted to keep the front sleek and clean, instead of utilizing a high contrast design. Therefore, in the spur of the moment, I started omitting triangles from the pattern to provide a little difference from the logo and triangles colored in k90. I thought the spot UV on the logo and select triangles would give way to a second glance by a client, from the corner of their eye.
Q : Any tips for our clients to consider when they are creating their business cards?
A : I think keeping things simple and concise will accentuate the real function of your business cards. Using only a select number of finishing options and a card stock that matches well will give prominence to those styles, rather than adding every option applicable to your business card.
Q : Did you experience any difficulties when using MorningPrint.com, or find anything to be inconvenient or inefficient?
A : I didn??t have any difficulty navigating the order process on MorningPrint.com. The instructions on the website answer most questions someone would have when submitting their design files. The 1 week delivery time was also pretty stellar!
Q : For future business card designs do you plan on playing with different stocks / options and if so any that you are specifically interested in?
A : Definitely! I really wanted to use a heavier stock, specifically the Heavy Nouveau and Heavy Linen, but spot UV wasn??t applicable to those heavier card stocks. I think the heavier weight and unique textures would be great to use. I also think blind-press embossing and raised ink would look and feel neat on a business card.
