Q : Briefly tell us about your company, it??s history and what kind of services do you offer?
A : I am a self-driven graphic designer that specializes in brand identity, packaging design, and digital media. I think of myself as someone who is capable of designing in various methods, mediums, and styles that can inspire, persuade, and educate many audiences. I believe in putting as much thought and research as creativity, into every design because nice visuals do not necessarily mean effective design.
Q : Your design inspires us, what inspires you?
A : Thank you! I draw inspiration through many resources. I??m constantly visiting numerous websites that features work from many talented artists around the world. It helps to keep myself updated with the current trends that are happening. The internet is a great resourceful tool, but I also enjoy drawing inspiration from books. I love to visit bookstores and flip through all kinds of design books for hours. To me, there??s an appreciation you get from seeing the printed design in front of you that you can??t get from seeing on a computer screen.
Q : You selected clear plastic + white ink, why did you select this stock? Have you printed on PET plastic before? Did you receive a sample kit before-hand?
A : I chose to go with a plastic stock to set myself apart from the usual paper material people use for their business cards. I also wanted to experiment with the clear material, which allowed me to come up with the concept of a hidden message on the front and back of the card. I have not worked with PET plastic before but I am very happy with the end result. And I always order a sample kit before hand if possible, just so I am able to explore my options, and see and feel how the material holds up.
Q : You utilized the white ink by using different opacities, you designed some of the transparent white text backwards which is really cool when you flip the card around it reveals a secret message. How did you come up with this concept?
A : This concept actually reflects my design style. I believe that good design always has that hidden yet vital layer that often gets overlooked by people. That hidden layer could consist of the brainstorming that leads to that brilliant concept, the copious amounts of research that is gathered to support the design, or collaborative effort that leads up to the final product. For my card, I utilized the different opacities to bring attention to my ??hidden layer??, which consists of words and phrases that describe my personality and work ethic when it comes to design. These are aspects about me that people wouldn??t know about unless they work closely with me. I also kept in mind that this particular stock could only be printed on one side, but I still wanted some kind of design to be seen when the card is flipped over. That??s when I came up with the idea of reversing some of the words so that it could be read from behind.
Q : Do you plan on trying this stock again? Or do you have any other stocks and options you are thinking of trying?
A : I would love to experiment with this stock again. I think there are a lot of opportunities to explore using the clear feature as well as the use of different opacities. I also want to try the raised ink embossing because I??m a really hands-on type of person and enjoy it when there??s a subtle texture when it comes to things like business cards. I think is a great and unique way to emphasize certain elements or a message on a design.
Q : Any tips for our clients to consider when they are creating their business cards?
A : I would say don??t be afraid to experiment. As long as the main information is being presented in a way that is easily readable, the sky??s the limit when it comes to the design. Find ways to utilize different material in conceptual ways that help enhance your design whether it is the color of the stock or the textured feeling it provides. This is where ordering a sample kit comes in handy.
Q : Did you experience any difficulties when using MorningPrint.com, or find anything to be inconvenient or inefficient?
A : At first I didn??t know how to go about describe my concept of using the different levels of opacity when putting my order in. I contacted MorningPrint with my concern and they were so helpful when it came to explaining how I should set my file up for their printers; one of their employees even checked over my file to make sure it was good to go. MorningPrint??s customer service is certainly beyond what I expected and I am very grateful they have such a wonderful team that really care about their customer??s products.
